Consider joining my community if you're inspired by my work. Helical Gears are the Way to Go. These precision-cut gears feature 45-degree angles. Resin printers outshine FDM in producing smooth gears. While FDM will suffice, be prepared to follow some extra steps: Take note: When working with a FDM printer, you'll need to wear down the gears before using them in a project or vehicle. Here's what to do: Build a setup like the one shown, connecting a motor to the smallest gear and letting it run for 10 minutes. Next, switch the motor to the larger gear and let it spin until the motion is silky smooth. To achieve optimal results, print with layers as low as 0.1. I've personally printed a 36-tooth gear at 0.1mm layer height and 30% infill, while my 12-tooth gear was created with an astonishing 0.05mm layer height and 100% infill. If you're interested in custom gears – be it straight-cut or helical – just send me a message and we'll make it happen!
