From Difficulties to Honors I envisioned creating a potential award or trophy for adventure racers participating in orienteering. To accomplish this, I modified the compass designed by jlaak to make it easier to print and incorporate some images and text. It is quite large, so I recommend scaling down to 55-75%. The hemisphere should pop into place after some gentle sanding. The hinge has a 2mm diameter; a paperclip could potentially slide through this assembly. The original version allows you to simply print the compass face and glue it to the center surface. Some pictures show this version, but I decided to create a more realistic compass for this central section. 13 December 2018: VERSION B: A new compass and dial were added to incorporate into the box. Of course, you could always add your own real working compass to this device. Superglue the needle onto the compass; the dial can simply sit on top (or be left out of it entirely). Ignore the initials on the front in one picture - I was personalizing it for something. The completed print is now shown here, and I am quite pleased with the result.
