This majestic sculpture was crafted by renowned artist Simon Maziere. Louis XIV, the Sun King himself, commissioned an impressive ten marble Companions of Diana to adorn the picturesque grounds of the Château de Marly, a serene hunting lodge and tranquil escape from the opulent palace at Versailles. Among these magnificent companions, one commissioned for the park at Marly between 1710 and 1716 was carefully placed in its original location in 1714. By 1722, it had been relocated to the beautiful Jardin de l'Infante within the iconic Louvre, and later, to the elegant Hôtel du Grand Maître in Versailles. During the 19th century, this stunning sculpture changed hands, entering private collections where it underwent alterations: its two delicate hands were recarved with modern accessories.
