Companion of Diana at the Louvre, Paris, France
myminifactory
This sculpture was crafted by Simon Maziere under a royal commission from Louis XIV, who ordered at least ten marble Companions of Diana for the grounds of the Château de Marly, a secluded hunting lodge and retreat from the bustling palace at Versailles. One of the Diana companions commissioned for the park at Marly, paid for between 1710 and 1716, was placed in the gardens in 1714. In 1722, it was relocated to the Jardin de l'Infante in the Louvre, and from there to the Hôtel du Grand Maître in Versailles. By the 19th century, this object had passed into private collections, during which time it underwent changes: the two hands were recarved with modern accessories. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for public access.
