Companion Cube Speaker Box or a detailed model of a companion cube
thingiverse
I wanted to share this with the world because it started as an example for my students. For fans of Portal/Portal 2, this speaker box is designed around the Companion Cube. The circuit kit used in this project can be purchased from designability.com.au/classroom-projects/stereo-ipod-dock and includes everything needed except solder, a soldering iron, and a music source. The base cube measures 100mm on each side. All files required to build this speaker box are provided, with the file name indicating the part name, material color, and number of prints needed. For example, "Knob-White_1" indicates that it's the volume knob, made from white material, requiring one print. The PCB can be secured in place by the nut on the potentiometer (volume control) with supports inside the box holding it firmly. Speakers are attached using contact glue as well as the white parts glued to the grey box. Part "Heart-White_6" may need to be scaled down to 98% depending on your printer's tolerances, as I found it to be a tight fit in the hole outside the box or can be trimmed with a craft knife. I used a Flashforge Guider 2 to print my version. If you choose to print this and use it only for its aesthetic value, feel free to do so. Enjoy! If there are any issues, recommendations, or requests, please let me know and I'll update the files as needed. Additionally, I will be uploading the pattern for a standard box used by students, laser-cut from 3mm acrylic, which uses the same circuit kit but is quicker and cheaper to make.
