Companion Cube Gears
thingiverse
Inspired by the all-famous heart gears, I decided to take the design one step further and expand it from 8 gears to a total of 32. The principle remains the same but with an added twist. I chose the iconic companion cube shape as a great candidate for cutting out of the gears, and I was right - it looks fantastic and works incredibly well! To bring this design to life, I printed all parts in ABS, which required a massive print with 20% fill. My two printers took four days to complete this enormous project. To manage the printing process, I used one printer to print all the large gears in batches of six, while the other printer focused on printing all the small gears in batches of ten. The printer that worked on the small gears finished its task just in time to start printing the 32 pins and the big core. For those who need help with assembly, I've included a PDF featuring all six third-angle orthographic projections. **Print Settings:** * Printer: FlashForge Creator Pro * Rafts: Yes * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.1 * Infill: 20% * Notes: + The Big Core requires some support to form the pin holes. + I printed thick walls (six layers) and slowed down the print speed to 3000mm/min, with cooling fans running at 50% from layer seven.
