Compact Tramming Jig
thingiverse
This is a custom-built tramming gauge housing for a desktop-sized CNC router/mill, specifically designed to accommodate 1.6" faced dial indicators from AGD Group 1. The tool was created with Amazon's B01BHHXGEG dial indicator in mind, and requires the removal of backs from the indicators before inserting them into the tramming gauge. To ensure accurate readings, two identical dial indicators may not be sufficient if they are not calibrated closely enough to function as tramming indicators. In this case, shims were inserted under the top cap of one indicator until the stems of both indicators were at the same length while at rest. The top hole is designed for a 1/4-20 bolt thread to be tapped in, which was then cut off and threaded into the gauge as a shank. A 6mm bolt could also be used for this purpose. The holes on the clamping surfaces are set for 3mm screws, with bottom holes slightly enlarged for use with threaded inserts. This design is heavily modified from Thingiverse's 1688277, and credits have been given to the original maker.
