This "Compact Low Friction Spool Holder" is designed to complement my "Ultimaker2 Rail System," which can be found at https://www.youmagine.com/designs/ultimaker2-rail-system-u2rs. This modification of Roberts' renowned Low Friction Spool Holder; http://www.youmagine.com/designs/882 utilizes an unmodified "608_core2" component. I based this creation on 608 bearings (M8) and a long M6 Hexnut due to the availability of these materials and a desire for weight reduction without using an M8 bolt. The accompanying DSM file allows for easy adaptation to other bearing dimensions as needed. Both end holders can accommodate a 22mm or, with the addition of the small adapter provided in edit 3 jan 2015, even a 19mm bearing can be utilized. One holder will go over the head of the M6 hexnut completely, making it possible to mount two spool holders close together on the rail system (two spools per bracket) when paired with other standard-sized components. I have also included the 50mm spool adaptor for UM and ColorFabb spools, which can be easily modified using the DSM file provided to accommodate any required size. This component offers a versatile foundation that could serve as a starting point for crafting a "loose filament adapter."
