Compact LM8UU and Igus RJ4JP-01-08 Bearing Holder
thingiverse
The purpose of this project was to develop holders that are compact and light in weight with no play whatsoever. The project came about when I noticed that the Igus RJ4JP bearings inside the aluminum housing had some play, which became apparent when handling the bed or X carriage. I decided to eliminate this issue and create a replacement for the aluminum bearing housing. I based my design on six101's concept but encountered fit issues, so I used it as a starting point. You can view his original design here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2553537 When designing this project, several considerations were taken into account to ensure that the bearings remained in the same position as they would be if placed in an aluminum housing. This was done to prevent any offsets or issues when using the parts. Additionally, I designed a wall the size of the original bearing to activate the end stop trigger without any problems. I also aimed to make installation easy and not require excessive force to screw into plastic. The holes were designed to be 3.8mm in diameter to allow M4 screws to be inserted with minimal issues. In contrast, the simple bearing block had smaller holes that required a lot of force to insert. The Fusion 360 files are available for anyone interested in seeing how this was created or if they want to experiment with it. Here are some key differences between my design and the original: * Smaller and lighter * Fixed dimensions to ensure precise alignment with SC8UUs * Easier to mount To print this project, you will need the following supplies: * Zip ties * M4 screws
