Compact extruder for short nema17 motors
thingiverse
To decrease the weight of a compact extruder, consider using shorter motors, such as those with heights of 40 or 36mm. Despite lower power, these motors can still perform well when the electronics supply full current for optimal torque extraction (though heat may be an issue). This part is designed for J-head style hotends and thin drive gears (MK7 won't fit). You can use gears and idlers from another model available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:100982, which is compatible with a 30mm distance between support holes in the Prusa i3's x-carriage. A version for 48mm long motors has also been added. An error fix was made to ensure proper centering of the idler; please use the updated STL files. This design is inspired by Kliment, Josef Prusa, and Shane Graber's compact extruders. I have also created an alternative version of this thing with a different hotend attachment due to filament alignment issues (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:168365).
