Compact dice tower UPDATED - with sidetray
thingiverse
I was thoroughly dissatisfied with the original design of the compact dice tower, as I strongly believe it contained several glaring flaws. This revised design makes the dice tower significantly easier to use and assemble, and I have also incorporated several improvements into it. I hope you will find this new design appealing! *The brown residue on the print is padding that I added to the dice tower to reduce noise when using metal dice. Unfortunately, I applied this padding before taking pictures for Thingiverse.* Here are the changes I've made to the design: - First and foremost, I have corrected the STL's so they are no longer a jumbled mess and slicing software will process them more efficiently. - Firstly, the lid: I have made the lid slide in, rather than flip open. This has two benefits: it makes the lid more sturdy, and it simplifies the printing process. When the lid is pulled out, it slides down on the backside and extends the tower. This can be seen in the images. - Secondly, the tray: The tray is now much easier to attach to the tower thanks to the two small holes on each side that separate the two large holes meant for the tower from the rest of the tray. Now if you gently heat one of the corners, you should be able to bend the plastic so it fits snugly around the tower. The improvements I've added: - I have included a side tray to hold the dice. This is an optional feature and I have also uploaded STL's for the towers trays without the additional sliding side for the side tray. It has some notable functions: - When the dice are placed into the side tray, the towers tray slides into the side tray. - I have found that if you use metal dice and do not have the side tray mounted, the dice are too heavy for the tower, causing it to tip over or jump around. The side tray helps keep the tower stable when rolling heavy dice. - When the side tray is not in use, it fits snugly around the tower and stays in place, so that the entire thing is neatly bundled together. - I have added artwork on the tower and side tray. This is also optional and STL's without it are available.
