Compact Dart Launcher
thingiverse
The goal of this project was to create a compact dart launching mechanism as a basis for future parlor pistols. It consists of three trigger variations: V1 (compact but difficult to use), V1F (accurate and recommended) and V1G (newest and most versatile). Demonstrations can be seen at http://youtu.be/l3LeLbWkE0o. The gun has a range of approximately 40 feet, but eye protection is advised due to its power. The front sight is not correct height, and a rear sight will be added if time permits. The trigger mechanism requires pushing the finger forward to fire, with V1F providing easier use at the expense of compactness. To load, pull back the bolt, hold, push upwards on the trigger, load the dart, and then fire by repeating the trigger action. Parts include a receiver, grip, trigger (V1 or V1F), bolt, darts, and hardware from McMaster-Carr. Instructions for assembly are provided with more details. The gun is not intended for use on people and should only be used as a toy. Further development includes possibly eliminating the bolt, but it's necessary for future parlor pistol designs. All parts can be printed using ABS (or potentially PLA) without rafting or support at 30% infil, with 1-2 shells recommended. Assembly involves inserting parts in a specific order as described in the instructions.
