Compact dust extraction head designed specifically for small palm routers utilized on CNC machines. Initially planned to create a conventional dust shoe but sought something more compact and efficient to minimize material usage. A 3D swept feature was deemed a superior choice over traditional 2.5D designs, offering enhanced performance and reduced complexity. This design is tailored to accommodate Makita RT0700CX4 style palm routers and securely attaches to standard 38mm OD vacuum cleaner hoses via a friction fit. To optimize compatibility, it would be beneficial to incorporate a thread for the specific hose being used. The compact dust extraction head features an easy-to-use grub screw attachment system, allowing for effortless access to the router body during tool changes or complete removal of the extractor. A convenient slot in the base accommodates a brush strip, which I've implemented using a rolled section of draft excluder material. However, alternative materials could be employed to maintain a consistent vacuum around the cutter when in contact with the work piece. The prototype was printed by a colleague utilizing their work's FormLabs Form2 3D printer and standard grey resin. Post-printing processing involved manual cleanup to remove imperfections and residual resin drips. To ensure a snug fit on the router, I employed my lathe to bore out the extraction head. Feel free to adapt this design as necessary; it can be easily scaled to accommodate various diameter routers and cutters, making it an exciting project for enthusiasts to explore!
