Compact Bowden Extruder Frame Mount
thingiverse
Needed a way to mount my Bowden drive securely to my Prusa I3 with a sturdy 6mm aluminum frame. Carefully thought through where to position the excellent compact Schlotzz-designed mount, and this is what resulted from that consideration. Looking forward to printing it this weekend and then posting how it looks when attached to the motor. Designed for compact bowden extruder drive mounting by Schlottz - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:275593 Design Notes: * Printer Brand: RepRap * Printer Model: Joseph Prusa Original I3 * Rafts: No rafts used * Supports: Yes, supports were added for stability * Resolution: .20 mm resolution * Infill: 20% infill was chosen for strength * Print Settings: + Top/bottom layer thickness: 1.2 mm + Perimeter thickness: 1.2 mm + Sliced using Cura with 20% infill Post-Printing Notes: After printing, a complete redesign was undertaken to fit the frame better while providing a solid mount for the bowden drive. A couple of iterations were made over the weekend, resulting in a final version that provides a secure mounting system and fits behind the Z-axis rail. Key changes included reducing the size of the design while increasing the slot for the 6mm frame to ensure a snug fit without splitting layers. You may need to resize if your frame is made of wood, acrylic, or steel. The Z-axis top support screws are used to secure the mount to the frame for stability. Two M3 nuts tightened against the mount on the back of the frame provide additional stability. To attach the bowden drive, you will need 2 M3 X 8 or 10mm screws. Additionally, you will require 2 M3 X 12 or longer screws to secure the mount to the back of your frame using M3 nuts and washers. Some zip ties are also necessary to manage stepper motor cabling along the top of the frame. This design is suitable for the Original Prusa I3 by Joseph Prusa, but may not accommodate other designs. It provides a good setup by keeping the motor and filament feed far enough away from the frame. Printed at 1.2mm perimeters with 20% infill in PLA using Cura to slice, it turned out as expected.
