Compact Direct Drive Bowden Extruder Design: This compact direct drive bowden extruder is designed for 1.75mm filament and features a MK8 style hobbed pulley. The OpenScad file allows you to adjust the design to fit various hobbed pulleys as well. The mounting plate can be easily removed from OpenScad. Key Features: The extruder uses a 13x8mm, 5mm bore brass hobbed pulley which is easy to acquire in Germany. It is compatible with MK8 style hobbed pulleys available at RepRapSource and reprapteile.de. Updates: The design has undergone several updates including alternative idler, improved MK7 drive gear support, push-fit bowden inlet option, and fixed OpenScad file to eliminate non-manifold vertexes. Assembly Instructions: Choose between normal inlet or push-fit bowden inlet versions. Print the base plate and idler separately using a 0.2mm layer thickness with a 0.5mm J-Head nozzle. Clean the filament path on the base plate using a 2mm drill, and use a M5 screw tap to cut thread for the push-fit bowden connector and bearing holder. Attach the push-fit bowden connector(s) and 608zz bearing, secure the NEMA17 motor with three M3x8mm allen head screws, attach the idler to the base plate using a M3x16mm allen head screw, fasten the hobbed pulley on the motor shaft, insert the filament, and use an M3 allen head screw with washers and a spring to apply pressure on the filament. Required Parts: You will need a printed base plate, idler, hobbed pulley, M5 push-fit bowden connector, 608zz bearing, M5 washer, M3x8mm allen head screws, M3x16mm allen head screw, M3 nut, M3 washers, compression spring, and an M3 allen head screw with suitable length. Tools Required: You will need a M5 manual screw tap and 2mm drill for assembly.
