With this nifty gadget, you can store 12 or more hex bits in a super practical way on Makita LXT series tools. I've been using it for over a year now and it's performed flawlessly, so I'm confident to share it with the world! It uses embedded magnets to hold the bits in place - each magnet holds two bits (one above, one below). You can mount it on either side (left or right) depending on your handedness, and still keep the clip on one side while keeping the bits on the other. If you don't have magnets handy, no worries! The slots have a cut-out that allows them to expand and adapt to the bit. This means you can print it out of flexible material like TPU. However, I highly recommend using magnets as they make it effortless to drop in the bits and adjust the design for any magnet shape. The piece mounts in the same spot where the clip goes, and you can even reuse the original Makita screw (which is an M4 12mm) if you lost it. The included STL file has 12 bits (6 below, 6 above, one long to the side), but I've also included the customizer source so you can generate your own smaller or larger versions. It prints without supports - just print the little triangular features on either side of the bit slots and they'll help prevent warping. The magnets should fit snugly in place; all you need to do is push them in and they'll stay there, no glue required. I used 1/4" cylindrical neodymium magnets which are perhaps a tad too strong (a bit hard to remove bits with oily hands), but the design is fully customizable. You can use square, rectangular or cylindrical magnets of any diameter and height, adjusting how tight you want the bits to feel. Remember to align the magnet poles when pushing them in - easy peasy!
