Carbon Industrial Design, located in Alexandria, VA, actively seeks out factory machinery and building materials to incorporate into furniture and design projects. Earlier this year, Carbon Industrial purchased a 100-year-old tobacco barn from Edelyn's Farm in Southern Maryland. The barn had fallen into disrepair after the derecho of 2012, and it became unsafe for use. However, Edelyn's farmer allowed Carbon Industrial to salvage the wood. Carbon Industrial worked closely with the farmer to dismantle the barn. The team sorted through the wood, selecting the best usable beams for furniture. These unique salvaged oak beams were used in The Shelby communal table. In designing this table, Carbon Industrial collaborated with Insight Property Group to create a piece that exudes strength and American craftsmanship from past to present. Oak beams hewn by skilled carpenters over 100 years ago were repurposed by the team at Carbon Industrial to craft The Shelby table that we hope will endure for another 100 years. Header: This photograph is credited to Carbon Industrial Design This 12-foot trestle table brings early American artisans to life using salvaged and reclaimed materials. By combining steel I-beam legs and accents with salvaged oak beams, the design reflects the industry and craftsmanship of America's early steel-working era.
