Commodore SX-64 full handle replacement
thingiverse
This is a full replacement for the Commodore SX-64 handle. This is not a 1:1 replacement, since you can't reproduce the original iron, step mechanism, with a 3D printer. But if your SX-64 lacks the handle, this is quite a good replacement. Even without a real "click" mechanism that keeps the bar in the position you choose, it can be used to keep the computer raised while you're working (see pictures). Every file shows how many parts you need to print. You will need some screws: I used what I have at home, 3.5 x 35 mm screws (wood pitch) plus two 4 x 20 mm screws (normal pitch) to fix the two arms to the computer chassis, and 3 iron pins (about 30 mm) for to fix the bar segments. You can print these pins too, but I recommend to use metallic pins. I took some 3.5 x 35 mm screws and I cut away the head. ---------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTE: the parts are already placed in the right way, especially for the holder: it shouldn't be rotated. Print it with support. ---------------------------------------------------- Mounting: - Use the connector to assemble the three longest segments of the bar. Put the pins into the small holes to keep the bar aligned. - Put the two smaller segment in place; try to get a perfect alignment of the five segments of the bar and fix everything with the 3.5 x 35 mm screws. You will need to force a little for to allow the screw to enter in the lower part. - Put the bar into the legs holes. BEWARE: don't force. If it's too tight, sand the plugs and/or the holes until it will enter *almost* freely (it must to be tight, but not too much). - Put the assembled thing on a flat surface to align the legs. - Fix the bar to the legs using two screws per side. Don't put a screw in the middle yet, just through the two side holes of the legs. - Take the bar holders and put a screw through the hole. The carved part should cover the two screws. Fix the screw to the bar (if it enters too much easily, you would use a thicker and/or longer screw). - Put the assembled handle into the computer. You will need to open the two legs a bit; be careful, don't force too much. It will enter without to break if you will do it carefully. - Use the holders to fix the handle with the two 4 mm. screw. You can tighten well these screws; the handle will move freely in every case. - Put the light blue cover into the holder. You've done! ------------------------------------------------------- Notes: - I hadn't light blue filament at home, so I printed all black. The original color is a dark chocolate brown, plus the light blue covers. - As told I used what I had at home - covid-19 compliant ;-) - but with black screws it would be better, indeed.
