Commodore 64 Case Standoff

Commodore 64 Case Standoff

This is a quick fix for broken motherboard/screw holes that snap off Commodore 64 case bottoms. It's still very much a work in progress but it works fairly well now after using it a few times. The best method I've found so far is to: 1) Print out a few copies on whatever printer you've got. 2) Drill a tiny hole down the center of the support that needs repair, or skip this step if you're confident you can line everything up properly. 3) Remove all old standoffs with a craft knife or flush cutter. 4) Roughen up both surfaces a bit with sandpaper. 5) Pre-cut some threads in the standoffs before gluing them down using one of the screws that will fasten the motherboard down. This way they're less likely to break your glue when you put it together. 6) Pick your favorite glue or epoxy and apply it, then stick a toothpick through the standoff and drilled hole to keep everything lined up. 7) Let it dry. Now, hopefully, it should work out. You might need to resize, sand, file, or make other adjustments if your case is slightly different from mine. For some corner posts you may need to snip off part of the bottom brim of the standoff to get it to fit. As I said, this is still a work in progress. I'd love to hear how it works out for you and welcome any suggestions or tips on the procedure.
