This monument honors the arrival of Siyah K'ak at Mutal (Tikal) in 378 A.D., a pivotal moment marked by his ascension to the top rank of Maya rulers: Kaloomte, known as "Lord of Lords". With Siyah K'ak's arrival, a new era dawned on the Maya lowlands, characterized by strong ties to Mexico's central highlands during the Early Classic period. This connection is evident in monuments from Tikal, El Peru-Waka’, Uaxactun, The Sufricaya, Bejucal and Rio Azul. Inscriptions on "Marker" reveal that Siyah K'ak's eventful arrival was overseen by Owl Spear Thrower (Jatz'om Kuh), ruler of Ho Noh Witz, or "Five Great Mountains". Mam Ch'amak, a vassal of Siyah K'ak, commissioned this sculpture in 416 A.D. Siyah K'ak, also known as Fire is Born (previously nicknamed Smoking Frog), was a notable figure in the Classic Period (250-800 C.E.) Maya civilization, prominent in Tikal, Uaxactun and Copan monuments.
