Commander Deckbox with Magnets (Art Optional)
thingiverse
This is my debut project on Thingiverse! I've designed a deck box tailored specifically for the Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. Three STL files are included, one with a lower section featuring a window to showcase the card art, one without, and an upper part that can be used with both. This design comfortably fits a 100-card deck single sleeved, with some room for tokens depending on the thickness of your sleeves, which I've only tested with Dragon Shield. The magnets holding the lid in place are 6mm in diameter with a 3mm depth. I employed N52 strength magnets that were super glued into position. Inverting the box and shaking it will cause the cards to fall out, but future plans involve designing an improved interface with tabs. I designed this deck box to be easily modifiable, so if anyone strongly feels they need a custom fit, please contact me or leave a comment requesting one. I might recreate this design in OpenSCAD to allow for customization through Thingiverse when time permits. Tolerances were carefully crafted to work seamlessly with my Ender 3 and facilitate the easy installation of magnets (it is not press-fit) as well as a secure grip on the inner rim. UPDATE: You will find three new files that incorporate a tab system, allowing for a snug fit between the upper and lower parts of the deck box. This modified design no longer requires magnets to stay in place but uses them preferably when the plastic wears down. With both magnets and tabs, the deck box can withstand the upside-down-shake test at least according to my experiments. Please note that you might need to wear down the tabs slightly to achieve an easier release if it's too tight for your liking. Once opened a few times, it will wear down to an easier release. If you're concerned about your commander card getting damaged, I've included an outline of a playing card for you to cut out of acrylic. Placing it between the case and the deck allows you to see the commander while protecting it from any sharp edges or points that might harm it. There's enough room for both the deck and a 1/8" acrylic cutout.
With this file you will be able to print Commander Deckbox with Magnets (Art Optional) with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Commander Deckbox with Magnets (Art Optional).
