Comlink from Star Wars Rebels
thingiverse
The Rebels' Facebook page shared an impressive image showcasing the comlink with orthographic views that highlighted previously undiscernible details. Adjustments were made to align more closely with the show's model, featuring a grid mesh applied to the mic tip, redesigned grips that are less rounded in shape, and a tapered endcap overall. New files bearing "revised" in their name are available, offering two versions of the mic tip - one with and without a grid, due to its intricate nature being potentially challenging for FDM printers. This detail can be recreated by using sheet styrene or metal mesh arranged in a tiled pattern. Print all three parts together; these pieces are designed to require minimal to no support material when printing (although some might still need a base of the "grip" section). The "grip" should be painted black, while the "mic" and "cap" should have a silver finish. The mic tip features a recessed area at its end for installing a mesh microphone grille. Consider using a sink aerator screen or even repurposing printing raft pieces (in some printers, these show a grating appearance). Alternatively, you could employ a piece of a pan splatter screen to achieve this look.
