Comfort Hive Side Rails
thingiverse
I am just getting into beekeeping. I came across the Comfort (Sam Comfort: http://anarchyapiaries.org/hivetools/node/10010) method of keeping bees and I was intrigued. I'm building boxes and preparing to add a couple of these hives to my apiary, but the first thing that jumped out at me about this method (and has kept me up at night) was the haphazard way that the top bars are spaced out (bamboo skewers - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H7YST4X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Enter these side rails. They have properly spaced indentions to receive the bars. These aren't tested on bees yet, as such I am labeling them as WIPs. There are a few iterations: Comfort Hive Rail - Drill Guide Solid v3.stl - A thin, quick print that allows you to mark for pre-drilling. Comfort Hive Rail - Shell 1.6 v1.stl - A thin-walled shell of the rail. May require supports to print properly. Comfort Hive Rail - Solid v1.stl - A solid version of the rail without the top tabs. Comfort Hive Rail - Solid v3.stl - A solid version of the rail with top tabs. The top tabs allow you to accurately line the rail up with the top edge of the hive body. (pictured) For best results, print in something more heat resistant than PLA.
