COMFORT CAB FOR USA TRAINS GP38-2
thingiverse
This is a precise fit for the USA Trains GP38-2 locomotive. It slides over the long hood and secures with the same screws as the standard cab. To install, you'll need to cut the two sections indicated. The biggest challenge in creating a smooth model with FDM printing lies in eliminating layer lines. This becomes significantly easier when surfaces are flat with no raised details. I've been developing a method of construction that combines FDM and SLA resin parts. The basic cab shell is divided into three parts for ease of smoothing. Once the surface is smooth, the resin detail parts (which don't require smoothing) can be added. FDM printed components include the main cab, roof, rear section, crew door, gaskets, and snow shields. SLA printed components consist of the light, battery doors, number boards, nose doors, bell, antenna, and sand hatches. Grab irons are crafted from 17-gauge steel wire. Crew door hinges and drip edges are made from strip polystyrene. Hinges can be found in Evergreen Scale Models #118 (0.015 x 0.188") or #8404 HO Scale 4x4. Drip edges use Evergreen Scale Models #149 (0.040 x 0.250"). Windows are cut from 1" x 3" microscope slides.
