The following design is inspired by two existing 3D printing projects: a combined curved gauge and a precision ruler. This new project incorporates the best features of both designs, aiming to provide a versatile tool for accurate measurements in various applications. Key Features: - A high-resolution scale with precise markings for length and angle measurements. - An integrated protractor for measuring angles up to 180 degrees with accuracy. - The ability to reset the ruler to its original position, allowing for repeated use without the need for recalibration. - Enhanced ergonomics and a compact design that makes it easy to handle in tight spaces. Design Requirements: - A high level of precision is required due to the integrated protractor feature. Therefore, all measurements should be made with a resolution of 0.1mm or better. - The ruler's length will be approximately 20cm (8 inches), making it suitable for most standard applications. - The tool must be designed with durability in mind, as it may be subject to heavy use. Components: - A single piece of aluminum rod is used for the ruler body and gauge components. - Two small screws are used to secure the protractor in place. - A small amount of glue is applied to hold the ruler's markings firmly on the rod. Assembly Instructions: 1. Begin by cutting the aluminum rod into two pieces: one for the ruler body (approximately 15cm long) and another for the gauge components (approximately 5cm long). 2. Use a drill press to create precise holes in both pieces. 3. Secure the protractor in place using the small screws. 4. Apply glue to hold the ruler's markings firmly on the rod. Tips and Variations: - To enhance the tool's durability, consider applying a thin layer of clear coat or varnish after assembly. - For improved accuracy, use a precision milling machine to create the ruler's markings. - The design can be easily scaled up or down depending on the specific application.
