Combination Safe 00 _ for the Visually Impaired

thingiverse

This is a Remix of Combination Safe 00. With this remix, I have made my original cryptex more accessible to the visually impaired, with changes that benefit all users, not just those with limited sight. The ratchet mechanism makes it easier for anyone to line up the numbers precisely. I welcome feedback from visually impaired users who can help me improve this design. Key Modifications: 1) A new outer ring features braille characters 0-9 or a-j, allowing readers to choose their preferred way of reading. 2) The Inner Ring and Inner Shaft have been modified to work as a ratchet. This means the rings rotate only one way, but if turned in the opposite direction, the ratchet holds the rings at precise increments, making it easy to line up the numbers. The ratchet also produces a pleasing clicking sound as it rotates, allowing users to count the clicks instead of relying on braille characters. 3) There are two versions of both the Bottom and the Inner Shaft: standard and Guide Bar (GB). The GB version features two bars indicating where the combination should go. Assembly Instructions can be found in the original design. Backward Compatibility In addition to these "key modifications," I have made several other small changes. As a result, only three components can be interchanged between this remix and the original Combination Safe 00: Outer Rings, Bottom Lock, and Locking Tool.
