A single action full working model can now be found on Cults3d. I have added photos of some of my other models. The scope will be uploaded to Cults3d also shortly for download I have been modelling and 3d printing some of the wild west guns and while researching to get realistic models I have been learning about some of the history. Introducing the massive Walker 56-56 Spencer (first photo and model that has now been uploaded) Search Colt Walker "Badass” Conversion The Colt Walker has an interesting history and was well known for being the most powerful handgun in the west from 1847 through to sometime well into the 1900's. I have read about, and modelled other Colts, the Army, the Navy, the Dragoon (all single action and working models), all were converted at some stage from cap and ball to either centre fire or rim fire. I found photos of old colts, and colt converts but nothing on a Walker convert until I found this interesting story. Was the Colt Walker really the most powerful handgun in the west or was there another? I read somewhere that Richard Magnum converted the Walker to a 0.55”Magnum using the .56-56 Spencer cartridge. The story goes like this! Fact or Fiction? He was a gunsmith well advanced for his time and was playing around with special brews of gunpowder that burnt much faster than the black powder used at the time. He illegally purchased some stolen .56-56 spencer casing dies and re-modelled them to press longer cartridges to allow for extra powder. Not having the facilities to manufacture a completely new gun he went looking for something to convert. He needed a gun/pistol that was strong enough to take the new cartridges so went to work on the colt walker which was un-doubt ably the strongest gun of its time. He converted it from the cap and ball to a rimfire cartridge. He modified and used the conversion kits that were used for the open top conversions like "Richards-Mason Conversion" by the Colt Factory. There is more to this story! It was kept secret because of the patience laws on centre and rim fire cartridges. As suggested, did Harry Alonzo Longabaugh (Sundance Kid) came along and steal it from Richard Magnum’s workshops back in 1880. Was this gun now the most powerful handgun in the west over the original colt walker and where the magnum cartridge name came from. The story goes on, it should be a novel or film but to cut the story short! Richard was never given recognition for his contributions to the fire arms industry and S&W ended up patenting the 357 magnum which was untruthfully told to be created by Elmer Keith and Phillip Sharpe. See below my interpretation of the Walker/56-56 Spencer modelled from the information I found during my research above. Also the cad model overlaid over some drawings of the original walker so that you can see the changes that were made. Its 5 cylinder instead of 6 so to keep the diameter of the cylinder smaller and the distance between the cylinders larger for strength. It can also take the 56-56 rifle cartridge similar to what was made for the spencer rifle. I believe This Cartridge was mostly used as Harry took all the cartridges and dies that were found in Richard Magnum's workshop. What happened to the gun? Who knows! Files will be uploaded soon. I just added my interpretation of the rare WW11 ZFG42 scope
