myminifactory
This colonoware vessel base was unearthed from the Folly Castle site within Manassas National Battlefield Park. Colonoware is a low-fired ceramic produced by African Americans here, and in this region of Virginia, it has only been discovered in enslaved settings, never in African American contexts after the Civil War (refer to Laura Galke's 2009 study, "Colonowhen, Colonowho, Colonowhere, Colonowhy: Exploring the Meaning behind the Use of Colonoware Ceramics in Nineteenth-Century Manassas, Virginia," published in the International Journal of Historical Archaeology, Volume 13, Pages 303-326). Artifact creation: This relic was scanned at the National Park Services Museum Resource Center in Lanham, Maryland, utilizing a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner.
