At the dawn of the eighties and nineties of the 19th century, the Academy's Upper Botanical Gardens was upgraded with the Forestry Department's modern new structure. Since its founding in 1763, the institution had faced a perpetual shortage of space, which led to the placement of its seven small facilities throughout Banská Štiavnica. Consequently, it was determined to build a state-of-the-art facility for the Forestry Department, based on the proposal presented in 1854, and locate it within the beautiful Upper Botanical Gardens.
