Collector's Thimble
thingiverse
A decorative thimble, designed based on the shotglass tutorial found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:434, was created in TopMod. The .obj file was then processed through Meshlab to convert it into a .dae format for printing via Shapeways. The final object can be viewed at http://www.shapeways.com/model/27961/collector_s_thimble.html. This thimble project was my first 3D design endeavor, and I found the tutorial extremely helpful. If anyone tries printing this with Makerbot or RepRap, please share your experience; though it lacks the support between inner and outer layers as described in the shotglass tutorial, its thinnest surfaces and smallest gaps measure around 2mm. Lastly, the dimensions of the thimble were intentionally increased to accommodate Shapeways' printing specifications, as my initial attempt was too slim.
