Collapsing Wand
thingiverse
I discovered that printing the light saber at 50% scale made it resemble a wand, so I designed a couple of wand housings for it. I print each light saber blade individually at a reduced scale, using a .5 mm wall thickness, which results in a decent performance with minimal filing required. Each section of the blade is available as a separate file, and I highly recommend printing them with a brim to ensure stability. When I printed mine, I used vase mode in Cura, specifically the "Spiralise Outer Contour" feature. PETG has proven to be the ideal material for these prints due to its reduced brittleness; PLA also works well, although it can be a bit more delicate. To achieve optimal results, set your "Line Width" setting to .5mm and then carefully sand or file the walls near where they connect to the brim to ensure smooth sliding. The "Simple" components come together seamlessly to form a more minimalist-looking wand design. If you prefer a single-color handle, simply print a closed cap followed by the body with an integrated open cap. Alternatively, you can print the caps and body separately for greater flexibility.
