Collapsing Sith Lightsaber (Removable Blade)
prusaprinters

This Lightsaber has a removable collapsing blade that can be printed separately in a different color. The hilt is designed with a screw on cap which allows the blade to be inserted after its printed. Prints without supports, but you will need a printer capable of printing the hilt 205mm tall.

The blade is compatible with the first lightsaber but since this one has the angle on top it will be visible when collapsed. As a result I included a shorter blade for this version. The hilt is 213mm long with the cap installed but it expands to over 925mm in total length with the collapsing blade installed!

Check out the Background video on youtube!!!

The sword is designed to be printed with a ,4mm nozzle, so the blade will be two shells thick. I had weird issues with blobs and zits at retraction which I normally don't have until I turned on "wipe" and "coast", I'm still using S3D.

Detailed printing instructions can be found on my website.

I think this is a result of the thin walls with a narrow amount of clearance between the blade segments. I had good luck with .15mm coast and 3mm wipe, on my MK3.

If you are printing the blade with translucent filament there is no way getting around the seams. I created files for separate blade segments to be printed in vase mode .85mm thick. I used .8mm nozzle with .5mm layer heights but I am told that a .4mm nozzle set to a .85mm extrusion width will also work.

There are two version of the hilt, the heavy version is more durable as it has heavier walls in the thin section of the hilt.

Included is a test print file. Use this to confirm that your segments don't stick together and that you have a thickness .85mm.

Check out my prints for other versions of these collapsing swords and lightsabers.

Here's a link to the Hilt filament I used to make the sword.

Support and Licensing
If you would like to help support more free models, or get permission to sell physical copies of my models, consider joining my Patreon.
