Collapsing Darth Maul (two sided) lightsaber
thingiverse
A lightsaber model, inspired by Darth Maul, created using 3D printing techniques. The hilt is custom-designed, while the blade can be reused from an existing design. This project was developed in FreeCAD, and both the original file and a template are included. Two distinct versions of the hilt exist: one with separate buttons and another where all components are combined. Regardless of choice, users will need two body parts, two latch pieces, a two-sided cap, additional components for separated button models (two back buttons, four grated ones), and two full blades. The original blade model can be found on Thingiverse. To print the hilt, users must bridge the bottom of the cap and handle 70-degree overhangs. With proper cooling, this should not pose a problem. For the separate-button variant, it is recommended to color the bands with a permanent marker or another method instead of printing new material. Due to its two-sided nature, a latch mechanism was implemented to prevent blades from extending unless desired. Printing the latch in PETG offers better layer adhesion and is suggested; however, PLA also works despite having a higher risk of breaking.
