Collapsible Light Saber with blade retainer
thingiverse
A smaller Collapsible Light Saber with twist lock blade retainer. Easier to print, 180mm extends to 900mm New blade design extends to a consistent length and blades can be fitted if they're not perfect. !! Important: !! Blade models are solid and must be printed in "vase mode" with a .9mm line width. In the Cura slicer it's called "spiralize outer contour" Print about 5mm of a blade then stop the print and measure the wall thickness Adjust the printer flow rate to target .85 to .95mm wall thickness. Most filament is less than 1.75mm in diameter and may require a flow rate of up to 115-120. Put the blades together backwards(both ways) to check the fit. You may have to sand down the inside edge of the narrow end and/or the outside of the wide end. I have only used PLA and found that filament varies greatly. "Inland PLA PRO" has terrible layer adhesion and the "retainer cap" would just break apart, other filaments work fine. To assemble, put 3 retainer tabs in the retainer cap and make sure they pivot freely. Lay it flat and point the tabs inward (like in the picture). Line up the switch on the hilt with a pin on one of the tabs and jam it together. If the twist mechanism is sticky, put a little petroleum jelly in the little notches on the hilt. Retainer Cap v2 has more of a click but the file is upside-down, flip it in your slicer. "Whistle Cap" will whistle as the blade is extended if you plug the hole in the tip of the blade.
