Collapsible Clothes Hanger - Print in Place

<p>I made this collapsible, print-in-place clothes hanger for the fashion challenge. The idea was to take up a small area so smaller printers can print too, and to design the hanger so that it can collapse for easy travel, all with just one model. In building the model, I also realized I could take advantage of one hinge and use it as a "hook" that you often find on many clothes hangers on either side to hold small straps.</p> <p>A lot of people around me travel for work and when they do travel, they go between business meetings and working in manufacturing spaces. This hanger would be great for them to travel with (or print at the manufacturing site!) and use it to hang up items like ties, safety vests, or suit jackets.</p> <p>The hanger works by using four hinges (2x of two types) to fold at 210 degrees and 180 degree, which will make the common hanger shape.</p> <p>I designed the whole model with 0.45mm tolerance and added in supports for areas of the hinge. I'm also including a version without supports if you want to add your own. The model rotates freely after breaking off the supports.</p> <p>While PLA would work, ABS or PETG may be better if you plan to use in hot environments. I also recommend printing with 3 or 4 shells to ensure strength</p> <p>A special thanks to my friend across the US who printed out a few test pieces for me along the way and sent me pictures. I don't have a printer at home and I can't use the one at work right now due to COVID.</p> <p>The pictures attached are the model and a previous version where I let the hinges open too much but this proved to us that the supports worked well.
