Many centuries before the rise of the Inca Empire in our continent, a unique monument was built in this millennium-old Peru: the lines of Nasca. What was the message they sent to future generations? Discovered by American scientist Paul Kosok in 1939, these fabulous lines that had remained anonymous awakened the interest of a great researcher later on: Dr. Maria Reiche. She explains how these lines were used by ancient Peruvian astronomers as if they were a giant solar and lunar calendar, sheltered under the sand and hazy legends and myths of locals. The imposing and enigmatic Lines of Nasca are one of the most important legacies of pre-Inca Peruvian cultures: a source of knowledge and an astonishing record of celestial phenomena. However, many mysteries still unsolved are woven around these geoglyphs. Scholars have suggested various hypotheses about their origins, including some that seem absurd, such as German scientist Von Daniken's book The Gods' Answer, which claims they were signals and landing strips for extraterrestrial spacecraft. But it is Maria Reiche who defines them as the strange testimony and legacy of ancient Peruvian cultures: The lines of the Nasca Pampas are nothing less than a documentary history of science and scientists in pre-Hispanic Peru. In them, a scientific tradition is recorded where ancient Peruvians developed an alphabet to record the most important astronomical events of those days. The Nasca Pampas are the pages of a book written with this strange alphabet. The Hummingbird is one of the most famous geoglyphs due to its harmonious proportions. The distance between the tips of its two wings is 66 meters.
