For the Romans, phallic representation did not necessarily carry an erotic connotation. It's common to find phallic representations in homes, public buildings, monuments, and everyday objects throughout Roman society. In Roman times, people were often superstitious and among many fears, they feared the evil eye. This type of amulet offered solutions to all that traditional medicine couldn't cure. This bronze pendant shows an arm with an erect phallus and another with a fig leaf.
