Coldwater corals thriving on a stone and a discarded lobster shell are discovered in 800m of water off the US east coast in the north Atlantic. The model shown is an overlay of a scan merged with an image taken at the start of the scan, used to match real colors to three-dimensional points. Exploring this coral reef was part of the NOAA's 2019 Technology Exploration Cruise. Thanks to the research team from NOAA Ocean Exploration Research, the Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration and the crew on board the US government-owned ship Okeanos Explorer.
