Scanners contain various parts such as buttons, gears, pulleys, belts, ribbons, guide bars for Z-stage modifications, and a light source. The light can be reused after taking apart the scanner, while other components can be recycled. Cold-cathode tubes in scanners are lit by a transformer that converts 5-12v DC into the required voltage. Carefully remove the tube and save the transformer along with its connecting cable. Be cautious when wiring the lamp to ensure safety. By running a free mini-Molex cable from your power supply to the transformer, you can have the light on whenever your Makerbot is on. Experimenting with different configurations may further improve lighting for your 3D printer.
