Col. Oliver Hazzard Rippey's Grave Stone Stands Tall in Allegheny Cemetery, Pennsylvania. Died 1862. The Col. served with honor in the Civil War and Mexican-American War, a member of the 61st Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. From his Obituary (www.nytimes.com/1862/06/08/news/obituary.html) "Among those who fell at the recent battle on the Chickahominy was Col. Oliver H. Rippey, a resident of Pittsburgh and just 36 years old. Col. Rippey served as a private in the Duquesne Grays during the Mexican War. After returning home, he worked as clerk to Mayor Herron in Pittsburgh for one year, in 1849."
