Sailors on early warships relied heavily on manual Deck mounted coincidence Rangefinders for navigation and target acquisition. These devices were ubiquitous among navies worldwide during the pre-WWI era, WWI itself, and the subsequent interwar period. Although they were eventually surpassed by more advanced technologies like rangefinders and radar, sonar, their smaller counterparts continued to serve niche purposes. This particular Rangefinder was designed specifically for use in a realism-based modification of From the Depths, a block based naval simulator game.
