Coffee filter holder
thingiverse
I made this filter holder to fit inexpensive, pleated paper coffee filters that are readily available everywhere. This versatile design allows you to rest it on almost any convenient container. But the one I had was specifically made to fit cone filters, like Melitta. Cone filters offer better quality and seem to be finer (at 20 microns), but it takes longer to filter things out. I only needed to coarsely filter cold deep fryer oil into quart-size plastic containers, so I quickly whipped up this thing. And the operation is pretty quick, filtering out the big junk without taking all night to do it. This thing will sit on containers with a maximum opening of 4 3/4 inches diameter (120 mm). The capacity is almost 16 fluid ounces (450 ml). The internal filter support-screen is designed as a separate part and is removable, just to make it easier to wash up. Both metric and SAE units are provided. Using Afinia defaults (0.3mm layers, average speed and quality), the filter body required 4 1/2 hours and 122 grams of material. The screen part took about 30 minutes and 15 grams of ABS plastic. I printed one with external support for the lower portion and another without any support, but couldn't detect a difference in quality. If the shallow 30 degree angle at the bottom of the filter causes trouble, and your printer can't build that angle without dripping filament over the edge, then give it some support to avoid issues.
