Coffee cup with coffee beans engraving

This is a coffee cup with an engraving of coffee beans on two sides. The cup is about 95mm tall overall and has a capacity of 335mL.

Obviously, make sure your material is food grade if you intend to drink from it. I used certified food grade PLA and heat treated it so it would stand up to hot coffee and dish washing. Also, if you want to be 100% safe you should use a stainless steel nozzle, as some brass alloys contain a small proportion of lead. Personally, I think the quantity of lead that could possibly make its way into a single print is quite low, and I don't intend to make a big habit out of printing food containers. I wouldn't go printing all my cutlery and kitchen utensils with a brass nozzle though.

Heat treating as a general rule will cause some warp so be warned. Though if dimensional accuracy is your priority for a coffee cup you might have something wrong with you.

Print settings:

I used a brim to aid with bed adhesion as the contact surface area is fairly low. The bottom of the cup is domed, and will require support under it to print properly. I used support blockers to stop supports generating under the engravings (because the cup is curved, they are somewhat over the build plate). I recommend printing at 100% infill, as solid parts tend to warp less when heat treating.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.16mm

Infill:

100% for minimising warp

Filament: 3DFillies PLA - heat treated after printing Blue

Notes:

Supports are needed under the bottom dome.

Category: Kitchen & Dining
