Coffee Cup

thingiverse

This is a fully functional (~8oz) coffee cup designed for everyday use. For optimal performance, refer to the Post-Printing section for step-by-step instructions on how to heat treat. To ensure food safety, make sure to use a filament made from FDA-approved materials, such as ProtoParadigm's $5 Filament. The vertical lines visible in the pictures may give the impression of flat sides, but they are actually a result of the infill pattern. The cup is smooth and free of any imperfections. Watch it being printed here (turn down speakers if you're not in the mood for music) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5gC_NHcDe8. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Rostock Printer: Rostock MAX V2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 Notes: The amount of infill is entirely up to you, and more will result in a heavier cup. You may be able to get away without using supports - the only reason I used them was to ensure the arcing spots in the handle turned out perfectly. Post-Printing: To make this cup safe for drinking, you'll need to use a filament made from FDA-approved material(s), such as ProtoParadigm's $5 Filament. You will also need to heat treat it by boiling or baking it. The cup included in the pictures was heated in a 230F oven for 12 minutes (per ProtoParadigm recommendation). There are several online resources that discuss how to "anneal" PLA to improve its Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT). Some warping may occur when heat treating, but based on experience, baking it resulted in less (barely noticeable) warp than boiling.
