Coca Cola Vintage Vending Machine Legacy Glascock's initial vending machine relied on an honor system: customers would take a bottle of Coke from the cooler and then pay the cashier five cents . . . or so it seemed. Before long, both Coca Cola and retailers sought out a coin-operated solution to this problem. Westinghouse pioneered the first generation of these coolers in the early 1930s, but Vendo soon dominated the market with its full-size, upright Coke vending machines. These machines began popping up everywhere - in supermarkets, bowling alleys, and other businesses - and are now highly sought after by collectors.
