CobbleBot Horizontal X Axis Mod V3
thingiverse
This is version 3 of my CobbleBot X Axis mod, completely eliminating the issue of X backlash that has plagued me in the past. I am now able to print accurately with my printer. This mod involves attaching a drive shaft to the X stepper motor, which then drives two belt pulleys - one at the top and one at the bottom of the X plane. This setup ensures that both ends of the Y axis move as one, keeping each end synchronized. The stepper is mounted outside the gantry's frame and the drive shaft runs just beneath it. The coupler for the drive shaft is nestled within the stepper mount. A slot has been designed into the stepper mount to allow access to the set screws on the coupler. In addition to the printed parts, you will require several components, including four 625 radial bearings, two idler pulleys, a 5mm drive shaft, two 5mm pulleys, and a 5mm to 5mm coupler. Here are some specifics I used: Bearing: I acquired mine from openbuildspartstore.com - Ball Bearing (5 x 16 x 5 mm). Idler: For the idlers, I used Smooth Idler Pulley Wheel Kit, available on openbuildspartstore.com. Pulley: You can purchase pulleys at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00THZJNTI Coupler: The coupler was bought from EnPoint Flexible Aluminum Coupling Backlash Reducer, accessible at Amazon.
