This is a sealed speaker design based on the Dayton CX120-8 coaxial driver and a simple three-component crossover. The simulated FR with the crossover on axis and 15 degrees off axis is shown in the pictures. The enclosure volume is 1.65 liters and the walls are 8mm thick. The wire is routed throguh the stand and can be connected to binding posts at the bottom. I recommend at least 20% infill density to get decent weight in the enclosures but since they are sealed speakers and don't play very low bass, they don't need to be very massive. I used a two component epoxy to glue the stand and the top together. A subwoofer is required to get good bass, crossing over at about 130Hz. This is a concious design choice since distortion and resonances from ports or radiators are not an issue. The driver also distorts less when not having to deal with low bass and the speakers are kept small enough to fit on any desk. (Dimensions are about 16x21x25cm (WxLxH) with the stands footprint being 14x18cm). The driver is angled upwards by 10 degrees. Subjectively, these sound very nice and smooth. I can't hear any distortion or major faults in the frequency response. They never get harsh or sibilant but retain nice detail and imaging. Add a sub and you get clean and punchy sound. Thanks to the coaxial desing the dispersion is even and the imaging in excellent. If you prefer brighter sound, you could always modify the crossover filter.
