The Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union is a symbol of the Soviet Union that was accepted in 1923 and remained in use until the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. Design The Coat of Arms features a hammer, sickle, red star over the Earth, and two ears of wheat covered by red ribbons. Each ribbon displays a different language, showcasing the motto of the Soviet Union. History On July 6th, 1923, the Central Executive Committee initiated a project to create the Coat of Arms. The project was completed on September 22nd, 1923. The Constitution of the Soviet Union officially confirmed the new Coat of Arms in 1924. Initially, it featured six red ribbons on the wheat ears with the motto "Workers of the World, Unite!" written in Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Georgian, Armenian, and Turko-Tatar languages. Over several years, more languages were added to the Coat of Arms. By 1937, there were eleven languages, and by 1946, there were sixteen. In 1956, the Finnish text was removed, leaving fifteen languages on the Coat of Arms until the end of the Soviet Union.
