I recommend buying coat hangers instead of making them yourself whenever possible. Unfortunately, I've never seen a fully satisfactory coat hanger in my local store. For example, the maximum width of coat hangers I've seen on sale is 42cm, which is a bit smaller than my clothes. Here's a coat hanger design that can be customized to your liking. There are two hook designs to choose from (select the one you prefer), and both share the same corner design. To adjust the width of the coat hanger, simply recalculate the beam lengths. The beam lengths are automatically calculated and printed to the console when loading a hook script in OpenSCAD. In the photo, the full width is 45cm, with upper beams measuring 187.8mm and 172.9mm for the first and second hook designs respectively. The lower beam length is 370mm for both. I used regular Ø16mm PVC tube for the beams, but you can easily modify the design to use Ø20mm or any other size. However, pay close attention to the tube's inner diameter, as it may not be standardized well, and you might need to adjust it to match your actual tube size. Common parameters are located in the common.scad file. Update 2/7: The second hook design has been upgraded with a tapering tip for a more aesthetic appearance while using less plastic. Update 3/6: I've combined the first and second designs into a single, third design. Update 3/10: The first hook design has been upgraded to provide a deeper, safer grip. Update 3/18: An additional version of the corners with shoulder pads has been added.
