Coal Face stands tall at 2.4 meters high, a freestanding bronze cast monument crafted through collaborative workshops with local residents. Emerging from the underground mine, this miner's head gazes up towards daylight, drinking in the breathtaking landscape beyond. The face is a dynamic mosaic of multiple portraits, intricately etched onto its surface to honor the region's miners. Its rugged texture mimics rough-hewn rock, inviting closer inspection and revealing an additional layer of depth. As viewed from the front, the portraits are sharply defined, but when seen from the rear, an optical illusion takes hold - the face appears to twist and follow the viewer as they walk by.
